SQUARING THE BACKGAUGE

All POLAR cutters have a pivoting backgauge to square the backgauge to the blade. Whether your model has a locking lever and adjuster knob or the older style with two adjusting bolts, the principle is the same: loosen one side and tighten the other to swivel  the backgauge on the front pivot bolt or pin.

A)  Pull, turn,
and release to
change angle.

B) Nylon
set-screws

BACKGAUGE AND ADJUSTER
MODEL CE
EL STYLE ADJUSTER

- On CE models, first loosen the locking lever. You can pull out on the handle to turn it freely and get a grip at a new angle. (note A) Then turn the knurled adjuster knob slightly (About one or two indicator lines) and tighten the locking lever securely.
- Make a test cut by squaring both sides of a wide stack of scrap about one inch high. Then turn half of the stack 180 degrees. Now you can see and feel if there is an undercut or over-hang on either side. Repeat the adjustment and test cut until both sides are even. (See below)
- On EL models, the procedure is the same except to turn the locking screws, you must first loosen the lock nuts. Then loosen one squaring bolt and tighten the other and make a test cut. After both sides are even, re-tighten the lock nuts.
- In both models, it is not necessary to loosen the nylon set-screws (B) which are only to keep the adjuster from moving loosely.
